I so appreciate this post, Michelle, and can't believe I hadn't seen it until today. Thanks so much for sharing it on Twitter.
I want to applaud you for actually starting the life project exercise and finishing it with the really X'ing out process. Most people don't -- but they also don't feel the freedom from letting all the noise go so they can focus on what matters most.
Turns out, Michelle was a doer the whole time. By doing less, you became a finisher.
Charlie, thank you so much for this kind comment and for your encouragement! I was so excited when I saw you had left a message and your words of support mean a lot to me. Doing the exercises in Start Finishing changed the trajectory of my creative career and my life. I will always be grateful for having found your work when I needed it most.
"Turns out, Michelle was a doer the whole time. By doing less, you became a finisher." Yes! I can now appreciate how taking less off my plate empowered me to do more. Thank you again for such a wonderful comment and for writing this book!
PS I'm sending an invite to come join us on the Build A Wealthy Spirit podcast!
I too have had my (un)fair share of piling on too many projects and getting frustrated that nothing ever seems to finish. I've gotten better to prioritising work that brings in the moolah, and parking all my other nice-to-haves.
Can't say that it's a bulletproof system just yet, but I've come a long way and have less days of feeling like I'm running around like a headless chicken.
Ahh I'm so happy to hear this piece resonated! It really does come down to prioritizing and realizing that trying to do everything at once only really means getting nothing done. Thank you for your comment and thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed it (obviously haha) and I read a ton of self help books this year. There were a few chapters that really helped me shift my mindset this. If you can get the audiobook on Libby or Audible, I'd recommend it. He has the best voice for this subject.
As a fellow member of WOP and a very busy dad, I truly commend your ability to say no to so much and be clear on your priorities. You've convinced me to get the book too (despite quite a long list of other books to be read). If your writing inspires, and calls to action truly lead to action, then you're a doer and a writer. Loved this piece and your candor is refreshing. Would love to connect about the podcast world. I have been an avid consumer but only a limited creator in that space.
Thank you so much for your kind words! "Start Finishing" made me appreciate that in any given period of time, we have a lot of projects on our plate, and that's ok.
Let's definitely chat more about podcasting - it's all I've been thinking about for the past year, so it's nice to have a community around it that is interested in continuing that conversation.

Congratulations! All the best with Malayalam, it sounds fun.
Thank you Alejandro! You know, I had planned to put off that project but I may visit India soon so, may have to prioritize learning it again :)
Oh man I've had this book on my shelf for like a year and now you've inspired me to actually read it LOL

Forwarded this to my friend who thinks he’s not a doer
Thank you, Chao! It's a hard mentality to break, but I found thinking in projects really helped me see that I'm "doing" a lot more than I realized.
What a great method to find out what your priorities are at that given time. Your effort is admirable, well done!
Thank you Kelly! I read a lot of self help books this year, and this is the sleeper hit that clicked for me.
Very nice, Michelle. The book really intrigues me and I already clicked on the buy now button on amazon. Thank you :)
Thank you, Silvio! There are a lot of great nuggets in the book, I could only do justice to one.
